Hello friend, and thanks for visiting. I'm James, a Software Engineer based in Evansville, Indiana.
I'm always learning an expanding my knowledge, after all, I wasn't always a programmer! Most of what I know is self taught, since I took only few basic programming classes in high school and college. I love learning new things about PHP, my primary language, and am delving more into languages such as Python, TypeScript, and Go!
In my free time I enjoy working on personal passion projects, reading (mostly fantasy these days), tutoring (mathematics and writing), and playing video games with friends.
Complete interactive systems for business and organizational use.
Tech support and guidance for local community organizations.
Tutoring for mathematics and academic writing on request.
Working with a team on user interface programming for medical and hospitality robots using PHP, TypeScript, SQL, Go, and other languages. Managing existing and creating new RESTful API methods. Additionally working on improving internal help desk system.
Worked with other departments to design and create solutions for various needs including but not limited to: record management, document management, electronic forms, material scanning and verification, inventory management, machine data storage and display. Refactored entire codebase to PSR-12 standards. Additional duties included shipping label design and management, systems administration including file server and Active Directory management.
Mainly responsible for programming intranet applications, primarily in PHP/MySQL. COGNOS database queries and maintenance. General IT support.
While at OneMain (formerly Springleaf Financial), I worked on backend financial transaction processing systems using a variety of languages such as ASM 370 for z/OS, JCL, Easytrieve, and SQL.
I was re-appointed to the Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) by the Evansville City Council to serve a second term. The board serves to advise the city's Chief Information Officer and make recommendations regarding IT matters.
I attended graduate school at Indiana University at their Bloomington, IN campus where I studied History and Philosophy of Science.
I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Evansville, where I double majored in Mathematics and Philosophy.
